Clevedon Pier: The First 150 Years
2019 marks the 150th Anniversary of the opening of Clevedon Pier. It is a credit to our local community that the Pier still stands proud on Clevedon’s beautiful historic beachfront – an iconic structure that attracts over 100,000 visitors per year. During this special 150th year we will be hosting a programme of wonderful celebratory events starting on the 27th May Bank Holiday with a day of entertainment, a ticketed evening concert and a late evening firework display.
On the 27th May the programme of entertainment will start at 11am and run through until 5pm (the cost will be normal Pier entry). The opening act will be the ever popular Barnacle Boys who will entertain visitors from a pitch on the landward end viewing deck. Six acts will be then be performing on our Pier Head stage – Amplify, The Road Trips, The Bristol Rock Choir, The Mumtaz Bollywood Dance Company, Extreme Cello and finally Teresa de Roberto. Secondly, there will be a ‘Birthday Sunset Party’ running from 7pm until 10pm. This will be a £12 per head ticketed (16+) event consisting of live music and dance from Planet Boogie followed by a spectacular firework display courtesy of FireMagic.
In addition we will be showcasing the work of our Community Archive team for one week starting from the 27th May. The Pier has a wonderful collection of historical documents and artefacts and whilst a small proportion is on view in Discover @ the Pier we don’t have the space to have more on public display. So for one week following the birthday celebration we will be exhibiting a selection of interesting items in the Porthole Room.
Later in the season we will be continuing the celebrations with a series of events which includes ‘Summer Serenades’ every weekend, wine & gin tastings, one-off concerts (including the ever popular Bristol Military Wives Choir), Porthole Room talks, salsa dancing and various other exciting performances and activities.
Our 15oth Anniversary has been funded entirely by donations from local businesses and we are extremely grateful for their support.
