Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust are proud to announce the renewal of their partnership with the Hawthorns Retirement Village and the recently opened Poets Mews, both of which are operated by the Avery Healthcare Group.

Hawthorns Clevedon has been the premier sponsor of Clevedon Pier since 2015, and this year the newly opened Poets Mews Residential Care Home will be participating in the partnership as well.

In 2020 Clevedon Pier and The Hawthorns will both mark milestones in their history – the Clevedon Pier & Heritage Trust will reflect upon the fateful collapse of two spans of the Pier fifty years ago when load testing carried out in October 1970 exposed a catastrophic weakness. This marked the beginning of a momentous effort from both the community and supporters groups which culminated in the restoration of the Pier. Hawthorns will mark their 25th birthday and a proud record of local engagement which has put them at the heart of the local seafront community.

The Trust’s chairman, Phil Curme, said “Our partnership with Hawthorns has gone from strength to strength over the years and I’m delighted that we will now be working with the team at Poets Mews as well. This year we will be marking the 50th anniversary of the Pier’s collapse and the public campaign to save it. Hawthorns have featured heavily in the Pier’s history and I’m delighted that the collaboration is set to continue”.

Mark Danis, the Commercial Director at Avery Healthcare said ‘’Avery Healthcare is delighted to maintain its main sponsor relationship with the Clevedon Pier, and to support the marking of 50 years in 2020 of the collapse of the original structure. Avery operates both The Hawthorns independent retirement community, which itself celebrates a landmark in 2020 of 25 years of great service to the senior sector in Clevedon, as well as the recently opened Poets Mews care home, a premium service that offers the best in residential and memory care.’’

Tim Somer, the General Manager at The Hawthorns added ‘’I am proud that we at The Hawthorns can again support and sponsor such an important local landmark, especially in this, the 50th anniversary, since the collapse and rebuild of this most beautiful Pier. We have such strong working relations with the pier and I’m so pleased that this will continue again for the foreseeable future.’’
