46th Anniversary of the Collapse of the Pier

Clevedon Pier is now enjoying an award winning new era and the future is rosy for our community star. However, 46 years ago today (on Friday 16th October 1970) two spans of the Pier collapsed when the then owners Clevedon Urban District Council were carrying out a load test.

If you would like to find out more about the rich history of your resilient community Pier, why not visit Discover@the Pier in the Tollhouse to hear fascinating accounts from local people about what happened on that fateful day and see our newest exhibit, a collapsing pier model, which will be unveiled any day now!

Our hats go off to the amazing support of the local community and our wonderful team of Volunteers who continue to support our Pier for generations to come. Do you remember that day and do you have stories to tell? Why not become part of your community history by contacting enquiries@clevedonpier.com – we’d love to hear from you.
