Clevedon Pier will play a starring role in the BBC One TV programme Inside Out West on Monday evening.

The rock n roll years when there was a juke box in an old hall at the end of the pier will be featured.

Broadchurch actor Joe Sims, who filmed on location in Clevedon for the ITV drama, has been back – this time to film on the pier.

The People’s Pier, a research project led by the University of Brighton, revealed the pier’s rock n roll past.

Project team member Dr Nick Nourse of the University of Bristol said: “The exciting information we discovered was that from around about 1958 through to about 1962 there was clearly a very active group of local dancers who came here night after night and danced to rock n roll.”

More than 50 years on,  BBC Inside Out West has tracked down some of those teenagers and they returned to the pier to share their memories with Joe.

The film will be shown on BBC One in the West on Monday evening (11th) at 7.30pm and will be available afterwards for 30 days on the BBC iPlayer
